Neeru Yadav – "Hockey Wali Sarpanch" Brief Introduction Neeru Yadav, popularly known across India as the "Hockey Wali Sarpanch," is the elected Sarpanch of Gram Panchayat Lambi Ahir, located in Buhana Tehsil, Jhunjhunu District, Rajasthan, India. Elected in 2020, she has emerged as one of India's most inspiring grassroots leaders by transforming rural governance through innovative, sustainable, and community-driven initiatives. Breaking traditional stereotypes, Neeru Yadav has become a symbol of women's leadership, rural development, environmental conservation, quality education, and sports promotion. Her visionary work has earned recognition at both the national and international levels. Major Social & Development Initiatives Under her leadership, Gram Panchayat Lambi Ahir has become a model of sustainable rural development through several pioneering initiatives. Utensil Bank To eliminate the use of single-use plastic and disposable utensils, Neeru Yadav established an innovative Utensil Bank, allowing villagers to borrow stainless steel utensils free of cost for weddings and social events. The remarkable success of this initiative led the Government of Rajasthan to adopt and implement the model across the state. Women's Hockey Team To encourage rural girls and women to participate in sports, she formed a Women's Hockey Team in her village. This initiative inspired hundreds of young girls and earned her the nationwide identity of "Hockey Wali Sarpanch." Mera Ped, Mera Dost (My Tree, My Friend) She launched the "Mera Ped, Mera Dost" campaign to encourage every resident to plant, nurture, and protect trees, promoting environmental awareness and long-term ecological sustainability. Prime Minister's Special Guest – Independence Day 2024 In recognition of her outstanding contribution to rural development and public service, Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi invited her as a Special Guest to the 78th Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort, New Delhi, in 2024. BRICS Women's Ministerial Meet She represented India at the BRICS Women's Ministerial Meeting, highlighting India's grassroots development model and women's leadership on an international platform. Government Recognition Her pioneering Utensil Bank initiative received widespread appreciation from the Government of Rajasthan, which later adopted and implemented the model across the state as a successful environmental and community welfare initiative.
